Rumor: Marvel Now Eyeing Joseph Gordon-Levitt For 'Doctor Strange'

nullGeez, Marvel‘s Phase Two is barely underway and we’re already rumor-mongering about Phase Three. Such is the internet these days we suppose. With “Doctor Strangeessentially confirmed as being in the playbook for Marvel’s third wave of comic book movies, chatter continues about who will take on the mighty mantle. Back in the spring, it was Justin Theroux who was said to be in consideration but now a starrier name is being mentioned, if there’s any veracity to this latest bit of news.

Latino Review reports that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is now being tossed around the Marvel water-cooler as the ideal choice to play the character. But as they rightly note, “Levitt and his team are probably unaware,” because we can’t imagine this isn’t merely some white-boarded ideas for now. Of course, the actor has done the comic book/franchise thing twice previously, playing John Blake in “The Dark Knight Rises” (WORLDS COLLIDING!) and Cobra Commander in the first “G.I. Joe” movie. But will he want to dance in the Marvel world for probably meagre pay particularly as his own directing career is taking flight? (JGL’s “Don Jon” opens this fall).

Guess we’ll find out. But what do you think? Is he the right guy for the part, a total fantasy or should Marvel be looking elsewhere?
