Rumor: Nimrod Antal In Line To Direct Rodriquez's 'Predators' Sequel?

A rumor that started over at Latino Review yesterday has relatively unknown director Nimrod Antal is in line to direct the Alex Livtak penned, Robert Rodriquez produced “Predators” sequel. Or at least at the top of a list of potential contenders.

The Hungarian Antal is not someone we’re totally familiar with, but kudos to Slashfilm with the context, describing his debut feature “Kontroll” as “a solid, weird thriller about ticket takers in the Budapest subway system. It created a unique underground world where misfits and drunks lived according to their own half-official rules.” They went on to say that his follow-up feature “Vacancy” was “a tense, well-made flick.”

The “Predators” sequel was originally written by Rodriquez more than a decade ago on contract but was just recently dusted off by 20th Century Fox and reworked by Alex Livtak. The tentative release date from Fox is July 7, 2010.

Though we should keep in mind that this is all Latino Review hearsay and that no actual facts support it. The only conformation comes from a “super-trusted source” of LR, which probably means it recently came to them in a dream. Maybe that’s being harsh, but they’ve had a few blunders of late, including Danny Trejo not being in “The Expendables” (something they first reported as being true and “exclusive”) and the alleged firing of “G.I Joe” director Stephen Sommers. That turned out to be wrong too, and in blog world everyone makes mistakes unfortunately, but it would be nice to see some acknowledgement of them (they instead talked to the producer and re-reported their own perpetuated rumor was false with a straight face). They also call their report about Antal as an “exclusive,” and yet they say he “might’ be in-line. So in other words, “exclusive: we have info of something someone maybe will do.” Again, buyer beware.
