The plans for the sorta-not-quite reboot "Terminator: Genisys" are pretty big. Not only will it potentially spawn a new trilogy, but a new TV series that will tie into the film(s) is also in the works. Let’s not forget, the film will feature the son of Miles Dyson, and now it seems it’s going to reach all the way back to James Cameron‘s original 1984 "The Terminator." Spoilers ahead, duh.
Drew McWeeney at HitFix (via JoBlo) has apparently read a draft of the script, and shared how ‘Genisys’ and "The Terminator" will share worlds and timelines. Read on:
There is a scene in the script where, literally, we see the scene from the first TERMINATOR film where Arnold steps out, the punks threaten him, he rips Bill Paxton’s heart out and takes his clothes and wanders off. And as soon as that scene ends, another Arnold Schwarzenegger who is older and bearded and a very different version of the Terminator walks in from the side and plays another scene right at the scene of that first incident.
Now remember, Arnie has already teased that his T-800 in the movie, will be aging. "The way that the character is written, it’s a machine underneath. It’s this metal skeleton. But above that is human flesh. And the Terminator’s flesh ages, just like any other human being’s flesh. Maybe not as fast. But it definitely ages," he said earlier this spring.
We’ll say this….it’s more interesting an approach that we would’ve figured, and while we’re still cautious, we’re compelled to see how it plays out. That being said, drafts change and a lot can happen from script to screen, so who knows if this idea will still make into the finished film.
In other news, "Doctor Who" star Matt Smith has joined Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney and J.K. Simmons also feature in the Alan Taylor directed movie that will drop on July 1, 2015. Until then, here’s the scene referenced above and let us know what you think about this timeline juggling.
