'Run' Trailer: Sarah Paulson Has Controlling Mom Issues In Aneesh Chaganty's New Horror/Thriller

Filmmaker Aneesh Chaganty stormed Utah in 2018 with his 2018 breakout thriller “Searching,” for which he won the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. That film, a mystery thriller mostly set within computer screens and smartphones, was inventive and exciting, almost a pre-cursor to what some of the more adventurous filmmakers have done on Quibi (R.I.P., Quibi). Well, Hollywood took notice, came calling and Chaganty is already back with his latest, “Run,” a mother-daughter horror/thriller that stars Sarah Paulson and Kiera Allen. “Run” was originally a Lionsgate film and was scheduled for this year, but like most film distribution companies in 2020 without a theatrical environment to play their films (thanks COVID and Trump), the company sold it off to a streamer, in this case, Hulu, who will debut the film in November.

There’s something unnatural, even sinister about the relationship between Chloe (newcomer Kiera Allen) and her mom, Diane (Sarah Paulson). Diane has raised her daughter in total isolation, controlling every move she’s made since birth, and there are secrets that Chloe’s only beginning to grasp. From the visionary writers, producers, and director of the breakout film Searching, comes a suspense thriller that shows that when mom gets a little too close, you need to RUN.

While the movie also features people like Pat Healy, the horror is mostly a two-hander between Paulson and Allen, a newcomer with only one other credit to her name (the short “Ethan & Skye“). “Run” premieres Friday, November 20, on Hulu. Watch the new trailer below
