The Russo Brothers To Bring Valiant Comics' 'Quantum And Woody' To TV

It’s been fairly well known that not only will a lot of your favorite heroes say goodbye in the upcoming “Avengers 4,” but also the film’s directors will be departing the Marvel Universe. Joe and Anthony Russo have been devoting themselves to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years now, and it appears that once the next ‘Avengers’ film hits theaters in May 2019, they’ll be going off on their own.

As we’ve reported in the past, the Russo Brothers have been expanding their workload to include more non-Marvel projects, working on SYFY’s “Deadly Class,” as well as some unannounced feature work. However, according to Deadline, one of their post-“Avengers 4” projects with include some more superheroes, but not ones that you’re probably familiar with.

Deadline says that the Russos are going to executive produce a TV adaptation of Valiant Comics’ “Quantum and Woody” for TBS. Now, before you question why TBS is the destination for a superhero show, it’s important to understand that “Quantum and Woody” aren’t your typical superheroes. Back in 1997, comic book writer Christopher Priest was inspired by the film “White Men Can’t Jump” and wanted to create an unlikely duo like Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes. Thus the creation of “Quantum and Woody.”

The superhero duo consists of adoptive brothers that get powers while investigating the death of their father. One of the characters is a straight-laced do-gooder, while the other is your typical slacker, petty criminal, smooth-talker. They have various energy-based powers that require them to slam their metal wristbands together once every 24 hours to avoid being dissolved.

The series is expected to be more light-hearted than typical superhero fare, leaning more into what TBS is known for. The Russos have enlisted “Ant-Man and the Wasp” writers Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari to pen the pilot script. Actor Joel McHale has been rumored for a lead role in the series, but that wasn’t confirmed, as of yet.

As mentioned, “Quantum and Woody” is part of the Valiant Comics Universe, which also includes the characters “Bloodshot” and “Faith,” both of which are being developed for feature films. In fact, “Bloodshot” is about to begin production starring Vin Diesel as the titular character.

No release date is set for “Quantum and Woody,” but its safe to say that it won’t premiere any time before fall of 2019.
