Ok, the last bit of Collider-related AFM news today, we swear, but kudos to them cause they got a lot of good stuff on projects we care about (and more that we don’t care about, which we’ve just ignored; just so you don’t think we regurg’ed all of it.).
Ok, some updates on two Ryan Gosling projects we’ve written about and discussed at length in some cases. We already blogged about “Blue Valentine” last week. It’s a indie drama starring Gosling (who we all pretty have man or femme crushes on here, he’s great) and Michelle Williams and basically tells the story of a disintegrating couple on their 10 year anniversary looking back on their lives (told via flashback, but hopefully, rather organic ones).
There’s no official synopsis per se, but that’s basically what the film is about. Directed by Derek Cianfrance (his 1998 debut, “Brother Tied” was heralded at Sundance that year and he’s done several portraits docs of musicians like, Mos Def and Run DMC and Jam Master Jay), you can read more on this detailed post about the film we wrote last week which contains set photos and more. Collider has nabbed the American Film Market promo poster, but obviously that’s not final.
However, it appears that this will be a low-key indie film with a limited release. We’re fine with that, just sayin’ it doesn’t scream wide-release studio film, but more intimate indie. Last we heard this one would be released in the second quarter of 2010 which is likely the spring probably sometime between March and April.
Lastly, there’s two new photos from Gosling’s long-delayed “All Good Things” which we feel like we’ve written about too much. But the long and short: It stars Gosling, Kirsten Dunst (the love interest) Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Frank Langella and has been called a mystery, romantic thriller. One of the main reasons we’re so interested in this one, is that is the feature-length narrative debut of documentarian Andrew Jarecki whose Academy Award-nominated doc, “Capturing The Friedmans” was rather amazing and riveting. The official synopsis for “All Good Things” is already out there and has been for months though it’s fairly vague. Collider‘s update is better and says the picture centers on the son (Gosling) of a powerful real estate tycoon, who marries a beautiful working class student (Dunst). Together they flee the city for idyllic country life in Vermont — only to be lured back by the man’s father (Langella). A year later she turns up dead and an eager cop and struggling reporter try and solve the mystery (Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the reporter we think, because test screening reports have said he was cut out of the film).
However, it’s been completed and shelved for months and has had about three or four 2009 release dates this year. It’s a Weinstein Company film (money issues well documented) and since it doesn’t seem to have — in their estimation — Oscar hopes or box-office major prospects, it just keeps getting delayed and delayed. We just wrote TWC and asked for an update and were only told, “release date TBD.” Sometime in 2010? Yes. But when? Who knows. There are also a ton of still posted here and we’ve included some here, but man, some of them do not look great. Hopefully this one is not just shelved on DVD.
