Dead Man’s Bones, the two-man band featuring actor Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields, have signed with Anti- Records and are set to release their now self-titled debut album — previously known as Never Let A Lack Of Talent Let You Down — this fall on October 6th, according to Pitchfork.
The two were previously on their own record label, Werewolf Heart Records, and had recorded with the Silverlake Conservatory of Music for the album. To date, the band has released two music videos of songs possibly from the album: “Name In Stone” and “In The Room Where You Sleep” both of which we loved. Self-described on their myspace as “Gothic/Gospel/Showtunes,” an early form of the album drew comparisons to Bryan Ferry and Arcade Fire.
The album release doesn’t bode well though for Gosling’s planned re-teaming with director Craig Gillespie (“Lars And The Real Girl”) for “The Dallas Buyer’s Club,” the story of a man diagnosed in the 1980s whose experimentation with drugs not approved for use in the U.S. at the time allowed him to outlive doctor’s predictions. Announced in early 2008, the film’s delay is set to continue as Gillespie is already committed to the second season of Diablo Cody’s “United States Of Tara,” which resumes shooting in August (he directed half of season one), while Gosling may focus on his musical project around the time of the album’s October release.
Our fingers are still crossed that their respective schedules will allow for its production in the near future. It’s one we’re highly anticipating.
Gosling has spent this year filming for Derek Cianfrance’s “Blue Valentine” and Andrew Jarecki’s “All Good Things” – the latter of which is set for a fall release (that is unless TWC goes under…)
