Ryan Reynolds Teaming With 'Never Goin' Back' Director For 'Home Alone'-esque Comedy 'Stoned Alone'

Augustine Frizzell is a filmmaker worth keeping an eye on. Her feature-length directorial debut, “Never Goin’ Back,” is scheduled to release in August from A24, and trust us, it’s a film that is sure to bring some attention her way. And keeping with the theme of drugs making people do absolutely bonkers things, Frizzell’s next film seems right up her alley.

According to Deadline, Frizzell is teaming up with Ryan Reynolds to make a “Home Alone”-esque film titled “Stoned Alone.” And while the title and story might seem familiar to fans of the classic Macaulay Culkin comedy, “Stoned Alone” isn’t a film that the family will probably gather around to enjoy around the holiday season.

The report claims that the plot for “Stoned Alone” follows a young stoner, who misses his plane to his holiday ski trip. With no holiday obligations, the twenty-something decides to get really high and stay home. That’s when he gets paranoid that people are breaking into his home. Shockingly, burglars are breaking in, and the stoned guy must fend off the thieves.

As mentioned above, the film comes from Ryan Reynolds, who would have probably played the role 15 years ago, but now is only a producer on the project, with his production company Maximum Effort. “Stoned Alone” is written by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider, who have a script for a Netflix Original film titled “Eggplant Emoji” in the works. Yeah, judging by that title, it doesn’t sound like the writing duo have any issues with their comedy being a bit…on the nose. Frizzell, on the other hand, is prepping the release of the damn good “Never Goin’ Back” and the HBO series “Euphoria.”

No release date is set, but its safe to say this film probably won’t begin production until the beginning of 2019.
