Sam Worthington To Star In McG's 'This Means War'? What About Colin Farrell Or Justin Timberlake?

Ok, this project is starting to smell like unwanted goods at the moment.

The merry go round of actors on McG’s action romantic comedy for 20th Century Fox, “This Means War” keeps going round and round.

In development for over ten years (never a good sign), with the likes of Martin Lawrence and Gore Verbinski previously attached the story involves two spies, and best friends who fall in love with the same girl (Reese Witherspoon has been cast and is the only one provisionally attached at the moment). The project has also seen its fair share of writers with Burr Steers (“How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days”), Cormac and Marianne Wibberly (“National Treasure”), Kiernan and Michele Mulroney (“Paper Man”) and Tim Dowling (“Role Models”) all having taken stabs at the script. If you’re wondering what too many chefs in the kitchen might do, just look at what happened after eleven writers went through Fox’s disastrous “The A-Team.”

At one point Bradley Cooper was going to be one of the spies, but he bailed. Seth Rogen’s name was batted around for a bit, but nothing seem to come of that. Chris Pine has also been touted as one of the names and he’s evidently been officially cast as well.

Now Vulture is saying that Sam Worthington has been offered the lead. This could be a tip they followed up on in the latest issue of Production Weekly that said Sam Worthington and Justin Timberlake were the studios top choices to star alongside Pine. Perhaps Timberlake is out of the mix, but his name was listed in PW’s doc.

But we dunno. McG and Fox sound like a bad combination and adding the wooden Worthington to the mix doesn’t seem like it’ll help much. So far it’s just an offer and by the sounds of it, Fox might just be running down a list of people they would love to see in this role and just trying to flytrap any star they can.

And Worthington could pass even though Fox is super gung-ho go get this project afloat. Vulture says he is also considering “Man On A Ledge” for Summit Entertainment where he would star as a “an ex-cop threatening to jump to his death from a Manhattan hotel rooftop; unbeknownst to the police psychologists brought in to talk him down, the suicide attempt is a cover for the biggest diamond heist ever attempted.”

Sounds high-conceptastic. If Worthinton bails, the studio apparently might offer it to Colin Farrell. And if he passes, hell maybe you know a good looking waiter/actor in Hollywood who might want the gig.
