While fans of “Star Wars” and Lucasfilm would both argue that “The Mandalorian” is a NEW series about NEW characters in the galaxy far, far away, there’s an argument to be made that Mando (the character and the show) is just an excuse to continue to mine the characters and stories of the franchise’s past. Hell, we even got the return of a young-ish Luke “Uncanny Valley” Skywalker. Lucasfilm just loves to bring back fan-favorites, no matter how it’s done. So, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that we could see the return of Samuel L. Jackson’s Mace Windu character, right? The actor sure hopes so.

Speaking on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Samuel L. Jackson talked about his desire to return to the world of “Star Wars.” He explained that there’s nothing wrong with a one-handed Jedi (we’ve seen it before), and the actor admitted to even laying the groundwork of the debate with ‘Mandalorian’ filmmaker, Bryce Dallas Howard.
“There’s a huge history of people with one hand returning in ‘Star Wars,’” Jackson joked. “I asked. I asked — the only person I’ve ever said that to, about coming back, was Bryce Dallas Howard, ’cause I just did a movie with her, and she directs episodes of ‘The Mandalorian.’ I said, ‘So you think you might be able to hook a brother up? I mean, you like me, right?’ She’s like, ‘I love you, you’re amazing!’ ‘So put me back in! Put me in coach, I’m ready! I’ll learn to lightsaber left-handed. Come on.’”
After a clip of this comment was shared on Twitter, Bryce Dallas Howard retweeted it with a simple “???” reply. So, take that for what it’s worth.
For those “Star Wars” fans who have forgotten, Mace Windu is a character that was introduced in the Prequel Trilogy and quickly became a fan-favorite, partially because of his colorful lightsaber and partially because it’s Sam motherfuckin’ Jackson. However, in all of the Disney-era returns of “Star Wars” fan-favorites, Windu has stayed on the sideline.
Regardless, even if Jackson doesn’t get the call to don the Jedi robe and carry a lightsaber again, the actor is plenty busy enough with his Marvel duties as Nick Fury. So, it’s not like he’s leaving the pop culture zeitgeist anytime soon.
