Samuel L. Jackson Says 'Manchester By The Sea' & 'Moonlight' Are Not Inclusive, Disses 'Collateral Beauty'

‘Tis the season for great movies, right? We’re right in the mix of when Hollywood unloads all of their Oscar contenders, giving audiences a chance to finally get some cinematic nutrition to go with those oversized, overpriced popcorn ‘n nacho combos, but one person isn’t having it this year: Samuel L. Jackson. Speaking at the Dubai International Film Festival, the actor singled out acclaimed movies “Manchester By The Sea” and “Moonlight,” along with Will Smith‘s “Collateral Beauty” for some pointed criticism.

Jackson argued that this time of year is when Hollywood likes to pat itself on the back, but he says there’s a hypocrisy in the movies they shower with praise.

“The movies they choose to say are amazing and great, you know — ‘Manchester by the Sea,’ oh my god, you must see it, it’s an amazing film!’ But, ehh, I guess it is — to somebody,” Jackson said. “It’s not an inclusive film, you know what I mean? And I’m sure that ‘Moonlight’ will be thought of the same way. They’ll say, ‘Well, that’s a black movie. Where are the white people?’ We’ll say the same thing about ‘Manchester by the Sea.’ ”

Meanwhile, Jackson also rolled his eyes at “Collateral Beauty,” quipping, “It’s another one of those, ‘Oh my God, life is so wonderful, take time to sniff the roses.’”

It’s been over twenty years since Jackson was nominated for “Pulp Fiction,” and this year did not receive any major awards recognition for his roles in “Cell,” “The Legend Of Tarzan,” and “Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children.” His next big screen appearance will be in “xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage.” Let us know your thoughts below.
