Samuel L. Jackson Says No 'Thor' Cameo, But Yes To 'Captain America'; Says 'Avengers' Film Shoots Feb 2011

Samuel L. Jackson spilled the beans on several little spoilers from upcoming Marvel movies. The actor who plays SHIELD agent Nick Fury said he will not have a cameo appearance in Kenneth Branagh’s “Thor,” but will appear in “The First Avenger: Captain America.” That’ll be interesting considering “Captain America” takes place some 60-years before in WWII. That said, Cap’s history is that he’s frozen in ice and thawed out in modern times so it’s probably Fury and his SHIELD cronies who are the guys that defrost him. Jackson confirms recent talk that the “The Avengers” film, now to be directed by Joss Whedon, will begin February next year. He also added that the film is “my own starring vehicle for that character, pretty much.” Yeah, suuuure it is. Jackson also told MTV his character, Nick Fury, kills someone in “Iron Man 2.” Mickey Rourke‘s cockatoo?

Speaking of. It would appear that Sam Jackson is using a Magic 8-Ball to choose which film he’ll star in next… what say you, Magic 8-Ball? The actor will now star alongside Kellan Lutz in “Deathgames” which is described as a modern day gladiator story, where men fight to death in an online arena. The film will be the directorial debut of Jonah Loop, the visual effects supervisor for “Collateral” and “The Perfect Getaway” and will no doubt heavily showcase the word “motherfucker”. Is it just us, or is the online-action genre (ala “Gamer”) as dead as dial-up? Label us not excited for this one.

Speaking of, once again, Edgar Wright recently tweeted about a meeting with “Buffy” and “Firefly” creator Joss Whedon, who obviously is now the brain behind “The Avengers.” Wright has of course been long attached to the “Ant-Man” film which he plans to finish at some stage in the future. Discussing Ant-Man’s involvement in Marvel’s plans maybe? Wright did tweet, “Let the speculation begin!” which probably suggests it was nothing at all, but he’s messing with fans.

Fangirl TV presenter Olivia Munn has recently been linked to the role of Wasp in “Iron Man 2” after revealing that she reshot new scenes with “Marvel and Jon [Favreau having] to add another character from the Marvel universe to keep me included.” Her previous role was reportedly “lighthearted and comedic” and was cut in editing to sustain the film’s darker tones. Fans are subsequently speculating her role may be that of Wasp — a character in Ant-Man’s universe — who would then be able to introduce Ant-Man in the Marvel universe on screen. Olivia Munn, a TV personality who is an untested actor playing a Marvel character, no matter how small? We sincerely doubt it.

John Malkovich has once again confirmed previous rumors linking him to the role of Vulture in the planned ‘Spiderman’ sequel which had Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire attached. The actor revealed he had an affinity with the project after being “offered the first [film]” presumably as the Green Goblin and admitted being disappointed at the fourth installment’s demise. We’re sure he’s deeply ruing that opportunity… to afford another holiday house.

The latest actress cast in Tom Hanks’ upcoming “Larry Crowne” is evidently Pam Grier who revealed on her twitter that she has been offered to role of Julia Roberts’ best friend. The thesp joins the likes of Bryan Cranston, Taraji P. Henson, Wilmer Valderrama and Cedric The Entertainer who were announced cryptically through a board of headshots on Hanks’ own twitter. — additional reporting Simon Dang.
