'Scare Me' Trailer: Aya Cash Is Desperate For Thrills In Shudder's Upcoming Horror Comedy

Aya Cash is a name that you should probably remember. If you’re someone who watched FX’sYou’re the Worst,” you already know that Cash is a force to reckon with on the screen, bringing humor and confidence to every scene. And 2020 is primed to be her biggest year yet, with the release of Season 2 of “The Boys” (where she plays a new superhero that might just be a fascist bigot) and her upcoming horror film, “Scare Me.”

As seen in the teaser trailer for “Scare Me,” the premise is simple but yet completely clever. A couple finds themselves in a creepy cabin the woods. And while you think that might lead to them being stalked by an ax-wielding maniac or something, the real horror comes from their attempt to freak each other out. With the simple command, Cash’s character tells her partner to scare her. And boy, does he try.

The film is exclusive for Shudder, marking the latest in a recent string of quality horror films to land at the streaming service. We’ve talked about Shudder before and how it might very well be the most underrated SVOD service available, especially if you’re a genre movie fan, and it’s clear that the platform just continues to land larger and larger projects. Seriously, if you watch this trailer and think it’s great, don’t waste your money on some of the bigger platforms and just enjoy all that Shudder has to offer. (Nope, I promise I don’t work for them. I’m just a fan.)

Joining Cash in the film are Josh Ruben and Chris Redd. Ruben is probably best known for his work with College Humor while Redd is a cast member on ‘SNL.’ So, definitely a couple of people that will add some levity to the film.

“Scare Me” arrives on Shudder on October 1. You can watch the teaser below.

Here’s the synopsis:

Fred (Josh Ruben, CollegeHumor), a frustrated copywriter, checks into a winter cabin to start his first novel. While jogging in the nearby woods, he meets Fanny (Aya Cash, “You’re The Worst” “The Boys”), a successful and smug young horror author who fuels his insecurities. During a power outage, Fanny challenges Fred to tell a scary story. As a storm sets in, they pass the time spinning spooky tales fueled by the tensions between them, and Fred is forced to confront his ultimate fear: Fanny is the better storyteller. The stakes are raised when they’re visited by a horror fan (Chris Redd, “Saturday Night Live”) who delivers levity (and a pizza) to the proceedings.
