While the world waits for Marvel to finally wake up and realize that Scarlett Johansson is a more than capable leading lady for action movies, rival studios are going to beat the comic book studio at their own game. A couple years back, Universal had a global hit with “Lucy,” and now Paramount Pictures is hoping for the same with “Ghost In The Shell.”
Featuring a crack international cast including Pilou Asbaek, Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche, and Michael Pitt, the live action adaptation of the beloved anime has Rupert Sanders (“Snow White And The Huntsman“) behind the camera, offering a heavily stylized take on the story that doesn’t hold back on the visual nods to its forebears. Here’s the official synopsis:
Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, “GHOST IN THE SHELL” follows Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.
“Ghost In The Shell” opens on March 31st.
