'Schmigadoon!' Trailer Gives Golden Age Musicals New Life

After announcing the project earlier this year, Apple has finally begun to release more information on “Schmigadoon!” The musical comedy will officially make its Apple TV+ debut in July. The newest trailer has given fans a little taste of what they can expect.

“Schmigadoon!” follows a couple, played by Cecily Strong (“Saturday Night Live“) and Keegan-Michael Key (“The Prom“), as they stumble into a town in which all of the residents constantly act like they’re in a musical. The cast is stacked to deliver both memorable musical and comedy moments.

“Schmigadoon!,” a parody of iconic Golden Age musicals, stars Strong and Key as a couple on a backpacking trip designed to reinvigorate their relationship who discover a magical town living in a 1940s musical. They then learn that they can’t leave until they find “true love.” The first season also stars Alan Cumming, Kristin Chenoweth, Aaron Tveit, Dove Cameron, Ariana DeBose, Fred Armisen, Jaime Camil, Jane Krakowski, and Ann Harada. Martin Short guest stars.

From Broadway Video and Universal Television, “Schmigadoon!” is co-created by Cinco Paul (“The Lorax“) and Ken Daurio (“Horton Hears a Who!“). Paul serves as showrunner and wrote all of the original songs for the series. Barry Sonnenfeld (“A Series of Unfortunate Events“) directs and executive produces. In addition to starring, Strong serves as producer, and Daurio serves as consulting producer and writer. Andrew Singer executive produces with Lorne Michaels on behalf of Broadway Video.

“Schmigadoon!” drops globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, July 16. Two episodes will be available at launch, with one episode being released on a weekly cadence every Friday. Take a look at the new trailer below.
