Last week the kids were all a buzzed on their twitter, Brandon Routh said Edgar Wright’s “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” graphic novel adaptation would feature hand-drawn animation in some action sequences.
Mmmm, maybe not so much says ‘Pilgrim’ artist/writer Bryan Lee O’Malley who appeared at New York Comic Con this weekend. “I think what he said was kind of blown out of proportion by the rumor mill,” O’Malley told MTV. “It’s not going to be like half the thing is hand-animated, like they’re saying on the Internet lately.”
O’Malley says Routh’s comments were “more about special effects and incorporating some hand-drawn doodling and stuff.” He made clear: “It’s not going to be a hand-drawn Michael Cera.”
The graphic novelist says he might be involved with the movie, but as of right now it’s too early to tell. ‘Scott Pilgrim’ has a great cast and the film should start shooting in the spring in Toronto. Canadian synth-rockers, Metric, are providing a previously unreleased track to the soundtrack and it looks like Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich is curating the music to be featured in the film (he’s bff with Edgar Wright). Set in Toronto, ‘Scott Pilgrim’ the comic book has musical references to Canadian bands like Sloan, the Tragically Hip, plus The Smashing Pumpkins to name just a few.
