“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” has all the makings of a sure-fire box office hit. Directed by Edgar Wright, who is the acclaimed filmmaker, most famous for his horror-comedy classic, “Shaun of the Dead,” ‘Scott Pilgrim’ featured an all-star cast and is based on a best-selling graphic novel. The only problem? Well, it was released in 2010 before Marvel Studios completely revolutionized the industry and made comic book films the cultural phenomenon they are today, and thus, wasn’t a big hit at the box office, at all. Well, a decade after its original release, Wright is bringing ‘Scott Pilgrim’ back to theaters, looking better than it ever has before.
According to Wright’s recent post on Twitter, the filmmaker has teamed up with AMC Theatres to re-release “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” except this time the feature will be seen using the best audio/visual technology around, Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, respectively. So, even if you watched the film in theaters in 2010 or on Blu-ray in the years since, you still haven’t seen the film look and sound as good as it will next month.
‘Scott Pilgrim’ is a film that follows the title character as he deals with all the relationship troubles that befell a young guy. He is dating a girl that he’s not super interested in, reeling from a breakup with a woman that is now a rock star, and secretly pining after a girl that is probably way too cool to notice him. Oh, and on top of all of that, he has to fight his dream girl’s seven evil exes. It’s a wacky, video game/comic book-inspired film that has stood the test of time to be one of Wright’s more underrated works.
In addition to the AMC Theatres release, Wright also confirmed that a 4K Ultra HD disc release will be coming in the future, though he’s not spilling the beans on when that might happen. So, if you are desperate for the new ‘Scott Pilgrim,’ you’ll have to check it out at AMC beginning on April 30.
