Love, loyalty, and testosterone run rampant in the new “Semper Fi” trailer.
Jai Courtney leads the cast as Callahan, a straight-laced cop and a member of the Marine Corps Reserve. His world is turned upside down when his wild-child younger brother Oyster (Nat Wolff) is sent to jail after accidentally killing a guy in a bar fight. Oyster is dealt an unfair sentence, so Callahan decides to go against his nature and attempt to break his little brother out of prison.
According to EW, director Henry Alex Rubin’s said, “’Semper Fi’ is the motto of the U.S. Marines, and means ‘always faithful.’ That motto also applies in deep friendships, where you are incapable of betraying each other, and stand up for each other no matter the pressure. If you’ve got just one person like that in your life, you’re lucky.”
The meaning behind the phrase “Semper Fi” must hit home for Rubin, as he penned the script himself, along with co-writer Sean Mullin. This is Rubin’s first writing credit on a film. “Semper Fi” is only Rubin’s second time directing a narrative feature, as he has predominantly directed documentaries, such as “Murderball,” a film highlighting quadriplegics competing in the Paralympic Games and “Who Is Henry Jaglom?” which is a profile of the American actor, director, and playwright.
Finn Wittrock (“American Horror Story”), Beau Knapp (“The Nice Guys”), Arturo Castro (“Broad City”) and Leighton Meester (“Single Parents”) join Courtney and Wolff in the cast. “Semper Fi” drops in theaters, On Demand and Digital HD on Oct 4.
Here is the official synopsis: A police officer who serves in the Marine Corps Reserves is faced with an ethical dilemma when it comes to helping his brother in prison.
