Back in 2004, Paramount attempted to start a new children’s film franchise with “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.” The film, which starred Jim Carrey as the evil Count Olaf, had a massive budget and failed to score big at the worldwide box office. Thus, the franchise was dead. Then back in 2017, Netflix revived the franchise for a brand-new series on its streaming service, and apparently, it’s been thriving. Well, until now. You see, the upcoming third season of “A Series of Unfortunate Events” also signals the end of the franchise, yet again.
In the new teaser for the upcoming third and final season of “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” we are once again introduced to Count Olaf, played by Neil Patrick Harris in the TV series, and the narrator Lemony Snicket, played by Patrick Warburton, as they implore viewers to watch the upcoming final batch of episodes.
As the title suggests, the series features the unfortunate events that follow a young brother and sister as they are placed in the care of distant relative Count Olaf. But as you might guess, Count Olaf isn’t a great guy, whatsoever. He’s basically the dictionary definition of the word “villain.” The Netflix series is based on the 13 novels in the children’s book series of the same name. The first season tells the story of the first four books. The second season tackled books 5 through 9. Now, season 3 will finish off the final four novels over the course of seven remaining episodes.
The third and final season of “A Series of Unfortunate Events” will be released on Netflix on January 1, 2019.
Here’s the synopsis for the series:
Based on the internationally best-selling series of books by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler), the third and final season of the Peabody award-winning Netflix original premieres worldwide January 1, 2019. Starring Emmy and Tony Award-winner Neil Patrick Harris, A Series of Unfortunate Events recounts the tragic tale of the Baudelaire orphans – Violet, Klaus, and Sunny – whose evil uncle Count Olaf (Harris) will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance. After foiling his many dastardly plans and disguises, the young siblings might finally discover the truth about their parents’ mysterious death, while unraveling the layers of a clandestine organization, and revealing the secrets of the coveted, missing sugar bowl.
