As fans of "Primer" and "Upstream Color" director Shane Carruth know, he does it all. In addition to getting behind the camera, he writes, producers, shoots, edits, scores, and in the case of "Upstream Color," even distributes his own movies. But he’s willing to lend a hand where needed. He’s acted in projects here and there, and now he’s bringing his talents over to Steven Soderbergh‘s "The Girlfriend Experience."
Film Music Reporter reveals that Carruth is scoring the upcoming Starz series, based on Soderbergh’s indie film. There’s a couple of previous connections here. Firstly, Amy Seimetz, an equally multi-talented individual who is co-directing "The Girlfriend Experience," and had the lead female role in "Upstream Color." She also starred with Carruth in the short "We’ll Find Something." Meanwhile, Soderbergh and David Fincher at one time put their producing power behind Carruth’s ambitious "A Topiary," and helped him shop it around Hollywood, but unfortunately, it never got off the ground.
So, some good news for Carruth fans, and let’s hope his score for "The Girlfriend Experience" gets an official release, because in addition to being a great filmmaker, the dude can cut some great music as well. The series starts on April 10th. Meanwhile, there’s been little world of what’s going on with the director’s next film, "The Modern Ocean," which last year lined up Anne Hathaway, Keanu Reeves, Daniel Radcliffe, Chloë Grace Moretz, Tom Holland, Asa Butterfield, Abraham Attah, and Jeff Goldblum to star. Fingers crossed it’s still coming.
