'Shang Chi' Trailer: Simu Liu Leads The 'Legend Of The Ten Rings'

Tonight Marvel Studios has released a new trailer for “Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings,” featuring Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), a young Super Hero whose journey of self-discovery unfolds in this never-before-seen origin story.

Destin Daniel Cretton, the film’s director and one of the writers, is excited to bring Shang-Chi’s story to the big screen. “Shang-Chi’s main problem in his life is rooted in not knowing who he really is,” says Cretton. “He has to learn how to own every part of himself. If he doesn’t allow himself to look at all of it—the good, the bad, the light and the dark—and to own it all, he won’t be able to reach his full potential.”

Simu Liu stars as Shang-Chi, the actor’s first starring film role after a lengthy television career.  Tony Leung is The Mandarin, best known for his stellar work with Wong Kar Wai and Chan Wing-Yan‘s “Infernal Affairs” films.  Awkwafina plays Katy, Shang-Chi’s friend. Fala ChenMeng’er ZhangFlorian MunteanuRonny Chieng, and Michelle Yeoh round out the cast, with Rosalind Chao and Dallas Liu also appearing in undisclosed roles.

“Shang-Chi” is directed by the aforementioned Dustin Daniel Cretton, last behind the camera for 2019’s “Just Mercy” and also known for “Short Term 12.”  David Callaham provides the screenplay, his first solo writing effort since 2009’s “Horsemen.” More recent co-writing credits for Callaham include “Wonder Woman 1984” and the upcoming “Mortal Kombat.”  

Shang-Chi’s journey is told with stunning visuals, the MCU’s signature spectacle and displays of mind-blowing action, along with the talents of a diverse, stellar cast and a relatable story. Marvel Studios’ “Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings”  opens in theaters on September 3. Watch the new trailer below.
