Long in the works, and seemingly never going to happen, Sharon Osbourne has revealed that the biopic on her husband, the Black Sabbath frontman and ant-sniffing drug fiend Ozzy Osbourne, is very close to going to into production.
“There’s about to be a big announcement. It’s been picked up and it’s going into production. We’re going to make a press announcement hopefully within the next two weeks. [There’s no cast] yet, but we have a producer and we have lots of money and we’re all starting,” she said.
We presume that Osbourne and Co. are getting a director lined up with casting to follow up shortly, but we wonder who is on their list. Perhaps they can circle back to those long ago (and debunked) rumors that circled Larry Charles’ now dead adaptation of the Motley Crue biopic “The Dirt” that had Christopher Walken playing Ozzy. That would actually be kind of fucking awesome. But obviously, the difference between young and old Ozzy (see clip below, and then watch an episode of “The Osbournes”) is pretty night and day so we would imagine, a couple of actors might get cast in the lead. But Sharon says that the lead will be played by “somebody new,” and that dream casting for her is [somebody like] Carey Mulligan (though Zap2It makes it sound like she wants Mulligan in the role, we think that’s a bit of crossed wires/bad editing there).
We’re curious about how honest/whitewashed the biopic will be. Ozzy has gone from legendary, relevant rocker to reality show self parody. Not to mention trying to capture the man’s epic, crazy life in the span of a biopic will certainly be a challenge but we’re curious nonetheless.
