It has a taken a little while but it looks like Andrea Arnold‘s first U.S. film is finally coming together. First announced in 2013, and followed by a brief update in 2014, "American Honey" now has a lead actor as intriguing as the premise of the film.
Variety reports that Shia LaBeouf will star in the movie. Written by Arnold as well, the story will follow a runaway teenager who joins the traveling sales crew for a magazine, and winds up partying, falling in love and breaking the law. Originally the lead was written for a woman, but it’s unclear if the gender of the role has changed, or if LaBeouf has taken a different part. But with the project headed to the market at Cannes next month, we’ll likely know more soon.
No word yet on when it might shoot, but we presume that depends on how well things go with buyers on the Croisette.
