If you judge life based solely on films, people really don’t ever figure themselves out. It would seem that every major phase of a person’s life is filled with awkward, cringey moments that haunt you forever. That happens in grade school, high school, and according to the new film, “Shithouse,” those terrible times don’t end when you go to college.

In the new trailer for “Shithouse,” we meet a young guy, who just absolutely is not a fan of college. He isn’t enjoying the parties. He doesn’t have close friends. And his roommate is the type of guy that gets drunk and shits on the floor of their dorm. Needless to say, things aren’t going his way. That is until he meets a sophomore girl and the two become quick friends and potentially more.
The film is written and directed by Cooper Raiff. Not only is “Shithouse” the first film he wrote and directed, but he also wore the additional hat of starring in the feature as well, alongside actors such as Olivia Welch, Dylan Gelula, and Amy Landecker. The film premiered at this year’s SXSW and was a major hit, winning the Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative Feature and was quickly snatched up by IFC Films.

In our review of the film from SXSW, we weren’t completely sold on the film, but said, “It’s hard not to fall a little in love with Alex and Maggie as they let down their guard and open up about their college experiences.”
“Shithouse” arrives in select theaters and on VOD on October 16. You can watch the full trailer below.

A coming-of-age tale that hits home for many college-age adults — a homesick, socially awkward college freshman struggles to acclimate and live on his own for the first time. One cringe-inducing encounter after another, Alex slowly chips away at his anxiety and finds a way to connect with others, even attending the infamous party fraternity called “Shithouse.”
