This summer, audiences have been doing things old school with “Twin Peaks.” The revival of David Lynch‘s cult ’90s series has seen viewers follow the latest developments just as they did twenty-five years ago, week by week, but with the bonus of having an online community to collectively share every WTF moment. Right now, the plan is for just these eighteen episodes to air, before David Lynch goes back to painting and drinking coffee and meditating, but Showtime is keeping their arms open should he want to continue the saga of Agent Dale Cooper(s).
“….the door’s always open to David Lynch, whether that would lead to another season, I don’t know if he wants to do it,” Showtime programming president Gary Levine told Deadline.

Levine notes that Lynch directed all eighteen episodes of the new season, which is a rather monumental feat, so it would be understandable if he’s in no rush to get back behind the camera anytime soon. Moreover, the new season was always intended to run and then be done, with no followup.
“It was always intended to be one season,” Showtime president and CEO David Nevins said. “A lot of people are speculating but there’s been zero contemplation, zero discussions other than fans asking me about it.”
So, don’t count on more “Twin Peaks,” but should Lynch change his mind, Showtime will be more than ready to give him a home once again.
