To say Nick Cassavetes’ directorial career has been spotty would be putting it mildly. While he curried favor with Moms everywhere with “The Notebook,” his work has otherwise wavered from treacly (“My Sister’s Keeper,” “John Q”) to forgettable (“Alpha Dog”) but we have to admit, the cast for his latest has us interested.
Sienna Miller, Lucy Punch, Ben Foster, Melanie Griffith & Gena Rowlands have joined the director’s next film, “Yellow.” Written by Cassavetes and his wife Heather Wahlquist, the film has a simple logline: a woman deals with drug addiction and multiple family secrets that she can no longer bury.
Of course, we don’t need to mention that Rowlands is Cassevetes’ mother and was a frequent collaborator on her husband/his dad John Cassavetes’ films. And we’ll pretty much watch anything with Ben Foster in it. We certainly hope this is the film where Nick Cassavetes can come into his own. Production will begin in Oklahoma in October.
