Director Austin Vesely and musical artist Chance the Rapper have been longtime collaborators and friends since before the “Acid Rap” days. Vesely, who shot many of Chance’s music videos such as “22 Offs,” “Sunday Candy,” and “Angels,” is now making his feature film debut, “Slice,” and he’s bringing his collaborator, Chance, along for the ride as the leading man.

We can definitely expect a plethora of pizza and cold-blooded murder, in Vesely’s new film. Produced and distributed by A24, “Slice” is a horror comedy with some serious slasher vibes. The film takes place in a spooky small town where pizza delivery boys are slain on the job and two brave survivors set out to catch the culprit behind the mysterious crime spree.
Chance, who quickly rose to the spotlight for his critically-acclaimed mixtape, “Acid Rap,” and then “Coloring Book,” dipped his toes into some dramatic acting in Vice’s 2015 short film, “Mr. Happy,” where he played a suicidal man. In “Slice,” he plays Dax Lycander, a werewolf and ex-chinese food delivery guy who gets caught up in the murder spree. Starring alongside with him are Zazie Beetz, from the critically acclaimed FX show “Atlanta,” comedian Paul Scheer from FX/FXX’s “The League,” and Joe Keery from Netflix’s “Stranger Things.”
It’ll definitely be interesting to see what this Vesely-Chance collaboration will bring to the film industry. With some noir-ish comedy and a pretty solid cast, this seems like an intriguing film to look forward to.
“Slice” doesn’t have a release date yet, but A24’s website indicates that it will be sometime this year.
