With Nick Cassavetes bailing on the gestating “Gotti: Three Generations” film to finish up his indie production “Yellow,” if everything goes according to plan he’ll likely be moving on to direct the Rick Ross biopic announced earlier this year. The film will tell the story of Ross’ early days as a crack cocaine dealer in Los Angeles during the 1980s. Apparently, Ross was a major player slinging up to 100 kg of the stuff per day and he claims that he was supplied by Contras who were fighting the Nicaraguan government at the time; yep, those same Contras that were funded by officials in Ronald Reagan’s administration. And a man who is no stranger to “the game” will be tuning up the movie.
Hip Hop DX reveals that Snoop Dogg will do the score to the film. A grainy, underlit and nearly unwatchable video (which you can check out below) shows Ross and Dogg talking about the film, eating fast food take out and pretty much confirming they will work together. “I also want to be a part of the soundtrack to make the scope of the music right, to make sure the scoring is right, to represent the era and the time period where we were going through on the West,” the Doggfather said. “Because it’s central that the story’s told from his eyes, so I want to make sure the music represents what we were listening to out here and what we were going through. And when it gets to those certain time periods, I want to be the one who makes sure that the music feels good while you’re watching the movie.”
Snoop has never been shy about his reverence for all things funk, soul and ’70s and his knowledge is pretty damn deep, so he’s actually a pretty solid choice for the job. While there is no word yet on when this will go in front of cameras, or even any casting, it seems like it’s slowly coming together. Check out the vids below.
