If you’re in the United States, you’re probably aware that in November, citizens will vote for a new slew of elected officials to represent their personal political views. And every election cycle, everyone hopes that more and more citizens will go to the polls, exercising their right, even though the majority of the country sits at home. If only the population of the US had the same motivation and drive for voting and participating in the political process as the diehards that are part of the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement, maybe the world would be a better place.
Just when you thought it was safe to bash Zack Snyder and make fun of “Justice League,” the folks over at #ReleaseTheSnyderCut are still around and are taking their love of the director to the next level — phone calls. After a failed attempt to picket outside Warner Brothers (failed in the sense that only about a dozen people showed up) and with the social media outreach not working, the Snyder Faithful are getting together to organize a phone call campaign. You know, because that’s going to finally be what pushes WB to do what they demand. Ugh.
According to a tweet from the founder of ForSnyderCut (yes, it’s a real thing), the digital campaign to force WB to release the mythical “Snyder Cut” of “Justice League” just isn’t enough. “It was clear that WB and DC couldn’t reconcile the human on the other side of the screen,” says the flyer posted. Hmmm. Not sure that’s the problem, people.
For the millionth time, WB hasn’t released a Snyder Cut of “Justice League” because it doesn’t exist. I repeat — IT. DOESN’T. EXIST. No matter what a storyboard artist claims, or whatever “insiders” the movement insists tell them otherwise, the Snyder Cut is an assembly cut, at best, and is not this finished goldmine of awesomeness. That means there are scenes that Snyder shot, some with decent CGI/SFX work (most without either), and they can be put in a chronological order. But a finished film, it is not. And therefore, WB is not going to release those scenes or waste the money compiling them into a “cut” of the film. The assembly cut would be embarrassing to watch, and releasing it just doesn’t make a lick of sense.
Why would WB possibly want to remind moviegoers that “Justice League” exists? The film is the lowest grossing of all the DCEU films. It boasts horrible reviews (obviously, due to the Disney/Marvel bias and/or bribing). And the current DC Films slate is going to, for all intents and purposes, pretend that “Justice League” never happened.
And to the poor soul that has to answer the phones over at WB, we’re sorry. Unfortunately, regardless of how silly the goal, the Snyder Faithful are a motivated bunch and will no doubt call regularly to annoy you about something you have no control over. Yes, you’ll want to bang your head into a wall. You’ll probably want to give up your dreams of moving up in the studio system at WB. But don’t. Persist. Don’t let these trolls destroy your life. It will get better, eventually.
For those that think a call-in campaign to WB is going to actually work, just save your energy. Put all this excitement and passion into something meaningful. Create a better movie. Don’t be so damn focused on WB/DC and Zack Snyder. They will always break your heart. Sorry, “Justice League” wasn’t what you wanted or anticipated. Everyone was hurt there.
Let’s just hope “Aquaman” rights all the wrongs when it hits theaters December 21. Oh god, are we really banking everything on “Aquaman?” We’re so screwed.
