So Diablo Cody Might Be Getting Her Own Talk Show

nullEver since the rise of Conan O’Brien two decades ago, you no longer have to be a stand-up if you want to be a talk show host. O’Brien was a writer, a behind-the-scenes type, and yet proved personable enough in front of the camera to land a plum late-night position. Nowadays, while most talk show hosts come up through the comedy circuit, you have the occasional outlier to join O’Brien, as the recent appointment of “SNL” head writer Seth Myers as Jimmy Fallon‘s successor demonstrated. The latest, potentially, to join them? Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody.

At their upfronts today, according to Indiewire, Conan’s current home TBS announced that, alongside their new post-Conan show, to be presented by stand-up and podcaster Pete Holmes, they’re developing another talk show with the “Juno” scribe to be called “Me Time With Diablo Cody.” The show seems to be in the early stages, but will apparently “look at pop culture and Hollywood with Cody’s perspective.”

Cody has always attracted a disproportionate amount of hate, but we’re fans of her writing, and perhaps more importantly for this, she’s always been a fun presence away from the typewriter (including hosting a web series chat show, “Red Band Trailer,” which presumably led to this gig), so we can follow TBS’ thinking. We just hope that, should the show go to series (which presumably wouldn’t be until the 2014/2015 season, it doesn’t take away from Cody’s career, especially given that she’s got her directorial debut, “Paradise,” due later this year. Would you watch Cody’s show? Or would you run screaming to channels other than TBS? Let us know what you think in the comments section, but do us a favor and check out Cody in action on her web series first.
