If you’re a fan of the horror film genre, then you know that it’s never a good thing when you find out a long lost relative has given you a creepy old mansion after their passing. Sure, being gifted a house is always nice, but there’s always more to the story, right? Well, a young woman learns this the hard way in the upcoming film “The Sonata.”
“The Sonata” tells the story of a young violinist that discovers that her composer father has passed away and has given her an old mansion that he used to live in. While there, the woman discovers one more piece of music that her father never produced, but filled with eerie symbols that she has never seen before. And as the trailer points out, it appears the sonata is not just any old song, but perhaps the way that someone could call upon the antichrist. So, definitely not something you want to play.

The film stars Freya Tingley, Rutger Hauer (RIP), Simon Abkarian, and James Faulkner. “The Sonata” is directed by Andrew Desmond, who co-wrote the film alongside Arthur Morin. The film marks the directorial debut for Desmond.
“The Sonata” arrives in theaters on VOD on January 10, 2020.
Here’s the synopsis:
After being informed of the sudden death of her long lost composer father (Rutger Hauer), a young virtuoso violinist Rose (Freya Tingley) inherits an old mansion in which he used to live. There, she discovers her father’s final work: a mysterious music score marked with strange symbols. With the help of Charles (Simon Abkarian), her agent and manager, she deciphers the symbols and, little by little, starts to unlock secrets concerning her father’s past, setting in motion the mechanisms of a somber plan imagined since the very day she was born. They soon discover that there’s more to the sonata in question than meets the eye which, when played, triggers and unleashes dark and terrifying forces.
