Sony Hires 'The Boys' Producers To Bring 'Doc Savage' To TV

For years now, rumors about a “Doc Savage” film have circulated. The peak of which occurred in 2016 when Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirmed that he would star in an eventual “Doc Savage” film. However, it appears that the project is officially dead. No worries, though! Because “Doc Savage” lives again, but this time the project is being developed for TV.

According to Deadline, Sony Pictures Television has teamed up with production company, Original Film, to work on a new TV series based on the classic character Doc Savage. For those not familiar, many consider Doc Savage to be part of the wave of heroes that existed in pulp fiction that ended up inspiring the modern-day superhero.

As mentioned, this is far from the first time that “Doc Savage” has been in development. The version that was set to star Johnson was written by Shane Black and would have been the start of a huge film franchise. However, Sony feels that Original Film (the folks behind “The Boys” and “Preacher”) are the right people to bring the stories to the small screen and that the character is better suited for episodic adventures.

There’s no anticipated release date set for “Doc Savage” or a network/streaming partner.
