Jason Sudeikis seems to have arrived out of nowhere to become one of the hottest comic actors in film right now. The “Saturday Night Live” veteran pretty much was the only redeemable factor (along with Charlie Day) in last year’s Drew Barrymore rom-com “Going the Distance” and this year he’s already set to star in a trio of comedic vehicles: the open relationship pic “Hall Pass,” the Black List-approved “Horrible Bosses” and the ensemble comedy omnibus “Movie 43.” Well, you can now add one more film into the mix.
THR reports that Sony and Samuel Goldwyn have teamed up and acquired “A Good Old Fashioned Orgy” that has a strong cast of players including Sudeikis, Tyler Labine, Leslie Bibb, Will Forte, Lucy Punch, Lake Bell, Michelle Borth, Martin Starr, Nick Kroll, Lindsay Sloane and David Koechner. The ambitious concept centers “a close group of 30-somethings who spend every summer weekend throwing elaborate theme parties at their friend Eric’s (Sudeikis) family home in the Hamptons. When Eric’s dad decides to sell off their summer playground, the friends agree there is only one way to have the biggest and brashest send off party, a good old fashioned orgy.” Sounds like things are going to get out of control and slightly awkward.
Clearly, Sony and Samuel Goldwyn think the film could be a big winner with audiences as they are gearing up the film for a late summer release. The film was written and directed by Pete Huyck and Alex Gregory who have written extensively for “Late Show with David Letterman” as well as a few episodes of “King of the Hill.” With all that talent and the ripe premise this has to be good, right? We remain cautiously optimistic.
