'Sorry We Missed You' Trailer: Ken Loach's Cannes Swansong Is A Touching Family Drama About Working Class Life

Ken Loach is one of the most decorated filmmakers to ever grace the Cannes Film Festival. The director has won the festival’s highest honor, the Palme d’Or, twice (“The Wind That Shakes the Barley” and “I, Daniel Blake”) and the Jury Prize three times (“Hidden Agenda,” “Raining Stones,” and “The Angels’ Share”). Not to mention a handful of other awards at the French festival in the smaller categories. Needless to say, Loach is a Cannes powerhouse. And the filmmaker debuted yet another project at Cannes this year, titled “Sorry We Missed You.”

As seen in the trailer, “Sorry We Missed You” is basically everything you’d expect from a film by Loach. The story focuses on a father trying to make the best of his situation with various low-paying, unstable jobs. He’s done just about every sort of menial labor positions and is now trying to make it work in a delivery gig. Along the way, he has to deal with the drama that exists in his family, with his daughter, son, and wife.

Loach has said that “Sorry We Missed You” is his final film to show at Cannes, after a decades-long career. We were lucky enough to check out the film at the festival and called the film “essential viewing.” Our review said, “A heart-in-the-throat final act will leave you second-guessing pulling the trigger on your next Amazon Prime delivery, with its very human cost.”

The cast includes Kris Hitchen, Debbie Honeywood, Rhys Stone, and Katie Proctor. As mentioned, “Sorry We Missed You” is directed by Ken Loach and written by his “I, Daniel Blake” collaborator Paul Laverty.

There’s no US release date for the film yet, but it is set to begin its run in Europe later this year.
