Your mood can be ever-changing and little things can suddenly take you from content to depressed. Well “The Sound Of Silence” takes sound and scientist Peter Lucian (Peter Sarsgaard who has starred in “An Education” and “Green Lantern”) calibrates the home to help adjust moods.
This project is the directorial debut of Michael Tyburski (“Palimpsest”), and is based on the short film written by Ben Nabors who served as producer on Tyburski’s Palimpsest. The duo co-wrote the film which sees Sarsgaard tune people’s homes to help adjust their moods, however one client he has, Ellen Chasen (Rashida Jones of “Parks and Recreation”), has a problem he struggles to fix.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year in the U.S. Dramatic Competition section, and Tyburski spoke to Collider about the idea of having a ‘house tuner’ as a real-life profession. He said, “Even though it is an invented profession, I never wanted it to be so far from reality, it’s technically science fiction but I wanted it to exist in a very real New York City.” It is a profession that could become very real, as there are studies based on the idea of how sound affects mood.
Tyburski also spoke on Sarsgaard, saying, “I did really want Peter to be in this.” He continued, “One thing I really liked about Peter right away is his positive energy and he makes everything okay and that transitioned onto set every day.”

While Tybruski was able to nail down Sarsgaard for the main role, there were also parts for veteran actors Austin Pendleton (“A Beautiful Mind”) and Tony Revolori (“The Grand Budapest Hotel”).
Here is the synopsis: A successful “house tuner” in New York City, who calibrates the sound in people’s homes in order to adjust their moods, meets a client with a problem he can’t solve.
The film is distributed by IFC Films and will be available On-Demand and digital platforms starting September 13. Watch the new trailer below.
