The coronavirus pandemic has put a cramp in every studio’s style. Following the news that Marvel will push its “Doctor Strange” sequel out of the fall 2021 frame to March 2022, Sony has muscled in on the open territory. Though, in fact, the multiple release date shuffles announced today might have been done in some kind of conjunction with Sony given the two studios are interconnected and business partners in the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sony announced this evening it was pushing back their third, untitled ‘Spider-Man’ sequel from summer 2021 to Nov. 5, 2021, the same date occupied by ‘Strange’ before it moved.
In related Sony/Marvel news, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2” has also been postponed, moving from April 8, 2022, to October 7, 2022. There’s going to be a long wait for your superhero films, people.
Sony has made a major swath of changes tonight. Keeping up with the amount of “Uncharted” release date shifts is a fool’s errand, but the movie, an adaptation of the video game starring Tom Holland, has good news—it’s been moved up from the fall of 2021, back to the summer on July 16, 2021, to be exact (essentially moved into the spot ‘Spider-Man 3’ vacated). It’s all a lot of Jenga with some movies moving back and some moving forward.

Additionally, seven more Sony films have changed their dates including “Escape Room 2,” “The Nightingale,” “Hotel Transylvania 4” and “Man from Toronto” starring Woody Harrelson and Kevin Hart.
