'Spider-Man' Musical Finally Sees The Light Of Day

“Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark,” the highly anticipated Spider-Man musical, has an opening day- February 10th, 2010. Many thought this momentous day would never come- budget overruns and postponements made it sound as if the project, directed by Julie Taymor with music from U2’s Bono and The Edge, was doomed from the start. A plot synopsis was revealed…

“The musical follows the story of teenager Peter Parker, whose unremarkable life is turned upside-down—literally—when he’s bitten by a genetically altered spider and wakes up the next morning clinging to his bedroom ceiling. This bullied science-geek—suddenly endowed with astonishing powers—soon learns, however, that with great power comes great responsibility as villains test not only his physical strength but also his strength of character.”

No surprises, of course. The leaked synopsis and purchase info found here doesn’t include a mention of the cast (Evan Rachel Wood was expected to be Mary Jane Watson, with producers eying “Across The Universe” costar Jim Sturgess as Spidey) nor does it include a description of the climactic villain that will contribute to a “Final surprising confrontation.” Fingers crossed for the Hypno-Hustler!
