Spike Lee Reportedly Eyed Drake And Kevin Hart To Lead 'School Daze Too'

School Daze Kevin Hart DrakeYou may have forgotten, but for a while now Spike Lee has been working on a sequel to his sophomore effort “School Daze.” Last year, the director revealed that the script is done for the follow-up to his college movie, which would take place in the present day. That’s about all the details we’ve heard since then, but the latest from the ongoing Sony leaks reveals a few more bits, including the names of potential leads.

This past spring an email from Spike Lee’s agent to Doug Belgrad, President of SPE Motion Picture Group, revealed that “School Daze Too” was being put together with Drake (really) and Kevin Hart as the potential leads. But it gets even crazier. “This is a new draft that Spike has written after meetings with Drake, who will play the lead role of PE*NIS, and Kevin Hart who will play DAT N*GGA JIGGA. The budget is $9 million (net, after Georgia tax credits), not including historic costs, star salaries, creative producer fees,” he wrote.

“I believe in the film both as an entertainment — a college film — and as a provocative and exciting piece about the conflict of traditional values (education, college) and hip-hop/star/celebrity culture. Why go to college to get a job to make money when you can make more money rapping, stripping, and creating salacious music videos even if they demean women?” he added.

But perhaps it’s significant that nothing was heard officially at that time or since. Perhaps even a low budget couldn’t get this moving, because admittedly, there isn’t really that much demand for this sequel, even with the name power and drawing potential of Hart, who is one of the biggest stars going right now. And certainly Drake AKA Aubrey Graham for all you “Degrassi: The Next Generation” fans would’ve been a curiosity too. But, it’s an interesting combination to consider, and who knows, maybe this one will surface again. [The Daily Beast]
