There’s at least one thing to be grateful for this Thanksgiving: the premiere of Spike Lee’s “She’s Gotta Have It,” the 10-episode contemporary update of Lee’s groundbreaking 1986 film that helped launch his career and change the depiction of African Americans in film.
Made on a shoestring budget over a period of 12 days, the critically-acclaimed movie earned over $7 million at the box office. Now, it’s getting the Netflix series treatment, with Lee directing every episode. Here’s the official synopsis:

The seriously sexy comedy stars breakout actress DeWanda Wise as Nola Darling, an uncompromising woman in her late twenties struggling to define herself and divide her time among her Friends, her Job and her Three Lovers: The Cultured Model, Greer Childs, The Protective Investment Banker, Jamie Overstreet and Da Original B-Boy Sneakerhead, Mars Blackmon. Nola is not who you want her to be. Nola is now—she is outspoken, complicated, progressive, unapologetic, passionate, sexual.
The series stars DeWanda Wise (“Shots Fired”) in the role of Nola Darling, a Brooklyn-based artist in her late twenties struggling to find herself as she juggles a job, her friends, and three lovers: Greer Childs played by Cleo Anthony (“Divergent”), Jamie Overstreet played by Lyriq Bent (“The Book of Negroes”), and Mars Blackmon played by “Hamilton” alum Anthony Ramos. Chyna Layne (“Precious”) and Ilfenesh Hadeara (“Baywatch”), Margot Bingham (“Barbershop: The Next Cut”), Sydney Morton (“Love, New York”), and Joie Lee (“Do The Right Thing”) also star. Lee serves as director and producer of all 10 episodes. His wife, Tonya Lewis Lee, is executive producer.
This Spike Lee Joint will join Netflix’s TV-to-movie adaptation lineup when it drops on November 23rd.
