We already know that this year has been a bit of a mess in regards to film festivals, with COVID-19 forcing many of the spring and summer events to be canceled. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t already some films earning some early buzz thanks to some prominent festival selections, such as the upcoming feature “Spring Blossom.”
As seen in the trailer for “Spring Blossom,” the new film from director Suzanne Lindon follows the story of a 16-year-old girl, Suzanne, that finds herself bored with her life, her family, and her friends. She doesn’t quite fit in with the kids at school, she’s always looking for something exciting. That’s when she meets an older man at a theater, who immediately becomes enamored with the teen girl. And through that relationship, both the man and Suzanne discover quite a bit about each other and their lives.
“Spring Blossom” has yet to premiere, but the film has already earned quite a bit of buzz as it was one of the 50 or so films that were selected by the Cannes Film Festival in its list of standout features this year. In addition, it was recently announced that Lindon’s film will play amongst the 50 films selected to show at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
In addition to writing and directing the feature (a first for the filmmaker), Lindon also leads the cast as the precocious teen, Suzanne. She’s joined by Arnaud Valois, Frédéric Pierrot, and Florence Viala in the cast.
As mentioned, “Spring Blossom” has been chosen as a Cannes 2020 Official Selection and will also play at this year’s TIFF, but a full theatrical release of the film has yet to be announced. Hopefully, it won’t be long before audiences can experience Lindon’s new film.
Here’s the synopsis:
Suzanne is 16. People her own age bore her. Every day on her way to high school, she passes a theater. There, she meets an older man, who becomes obsessed with her. Despite their age difference, they find in each other an answer to their ennui and fall in love. But Suzanne is afraid she’s missing out on life – that life of a 16-year-old, which she had struggled so much to enjoy in the same way as her peers.
Trailer removed at the request of the producers.
