'Spring Breakers' & 'The Last Exorcism II' Will Rock You, Shock You This Spring

nullIt's November, which means students are in thick of it at school and longing for next week's Thanksgiving holiday. But March is on the distant horizon, and that means one thing: spring break! So bust out your beer and bikinis, because we have got some movies coming your way next year.

First up, after being picked up by Annapurna Pictures just before TIFF, Harmony Korine's gleefully bonkers "Spring Breakers" is now slated for an unspecified spring 2013 release date. Seems appropriate. Newcomers A24 — who are also behind Roman Coppola's upcoming "A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III" (read our review here) — will handle the picture that finds James Franco playing a gold-toothed criminal who leads a bunch of bikini babes into some criminal endeavors.

We described it as "a pulpy crime tale, given more substance than it should have on paper thanks to some excellent filmmaking" in our review from Venice, and it's one that should be an early treat for the new year. Here's the official synopsis:

SPRING BREAKERS tells the story of four sexy college girls as they plan to fund their spring break getaway by robbing a fast food joint. But that's only the beginning… At a motel room rager, fun reaches its legal limit and the girls are arrested and taken to jail. Hungover and clad only in bikinis, the girls appear before a judge but are bailed out unexpectedly by Alien (James Franco), an infamous local thug and amateur rapper who takes them under his wing and leads them on the wildest Spring Break trip in history. `Rough on the outside but with a soft soul on the inside, Alien wins over the hearts and dreams of the young SpringBreakers, and leads them on a Spring Break they never could have imagined.

In other release date news: We sort of forgot this was happening, but "The Last Exorcism II" has been shot and it will try to scare your pants off on March 1, 2013. Ashley Bell returns to the lead role, with the movie taking place shortly after the events of the first movie, proving "her last exorcism was just the beginning." So much for that title — you can check out the first look at the movie right up above.

Meanwhile, Tom Cruise's "All You Need Is Kill" has moved one week ahead to March 7, 2014 to get out of the way of Angelina Jolie's "Maleficent." Also coming in 2014? "Popeye" will make spinach and pipes cool again on September 26, 2014. Lastly, Sony is ready to franchise "Hotel Transylvania," pegging the sequel to their animated smash hit, "Hotel Transylvania 2," for a September 25, 2015 date.
