Well, it appears that we’re going to get Season 2 of “Squid Game.” And maybe, just maybe, Netflix might even more episodes than that.
In an interview with Korean broadcaster, KBS (via Korea Times), the creator of “Squid Game,” Hwang Dong-hyuk, not only said his deal for Season 2 of Netflix’s most popular TV series ever is getting close to completion, but he’s also going to sign for a Season 3, as well.

“I’m in talks with Netflix over season 2 as well as season 3,” Hwang said. “We will come to a conclusion any time soon.”
This is obviously a big deal for Netflix, a streaming platform that is trying to maximize viewership across the globe. “Squid Game” has been nothing short of a global sensation, earning 1.65 billion hours viewed in its first 28 days of release. Now, months after it debuted, this past week, “Squid Game” still earned over 15 million hours viewed, which is good enough for #5 of non-English TV shows.

For those who haven’t seen the series, “Squid Game” follows the story of a group of people who join a deadly game to earn money to help save them from financial ruin. The first season ends in a way that hints towards Season 2, but before recent comments, it seemed as if Hwang was wavering about wanting to do more episodes or not. This is because the series creator is also the sole writer and director for the TV series. We’ll have to see if his role is altered at all in future seasons.
Even if Netflix signs on for more “Squid Game” right now, it’s unclear when the world might see new episodes. It would be pretty damn aggressive to try to get it ready for 2022, but Netflix is going to be pressing to have these episodes as soon as possible, obviously.
