Based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel, the full trailer for “The Stand” debuted yesterday at New York Comic-Con. “The Stand” is King’s apocalyptic vision of a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil, sounds timely, right? Cast members Whoopi Goldberg, James Marsden, Greg Kinnear, Odessa Young, Jovan Adepo, Amber Heard, and Owen Teague, as well as Executive Producers Benjamin Cavell and Taylor Elmore, made themselves available for a lively NYCC chat too. While a short teaser was unveiled earlier this fall, this first official trailer is chock full of new footage and really gives one a more accurate reflection of this pandemic thriller.
While “The Stand” was already a 1994 American television post-apocalyptic horror miniseries starring folks like Gary Sinise, Miguel Ferrer, Rob Lowe, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Molly Ringwald, and more, the recent Stephen King movie renaissance has made King-based content super in-demand again. This time, “The Stand” will close with a new coda written by the famed author himself to make sure it stands out as something different for those that know the original well.
“In The Stand,” the fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abagail (Goldberg) and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg (Alexander Skarsgård), the Dark Man.
