'A Star Is Born' To Premiere At Venice; Films From The Coen Bros, Rick Alverson, Brady Corbet, & More Reported To Join Line-Up

Of all the films premiering this fall, perhaps the most highly-anticipated is none other than actor Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut, “A Star is Born.” The film, which is scheduled to hit theaters later this year, has been building buzz since before anyone has even seen the footage. Coming out of CinemaCon, the film was universally praised and many people started to use the word “Oscar” when describing the project’s potential. Well, now we know when people will finally get a chance to see the film for themselves.

According to Variety, “A Star is Born” is expected to have its world premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival. Cooper’s latest is scheduled to premiere on August 31, as part of the prestigious event. However, ‘Star’ won’t be competing for any trophies, as the film will show as an out-of-competition selection.

The film joins a long list of incredible projects getting the Venice treatment this year. As we’ve said before, it’s difficult to imagine how the lineup for the festival could get any better.

That being said, the next bit of Venice news might be enough to make your head explode. Festival insider Cédric Succivalli tweeted that “A Star is Born” is far from the only big name project yet to be announced for the festival.

Succivalli tweeted, “On top of the US titles @Variety has already announced, The Coen Bros, Rick Alverson, Brady Corbet and Julian Schnabel to Compete for the Golden Lion.”

That’s right, in addition to the already stacked lineup of incredible filmmakers, we can add the Coens, Alverson, Corbet, and Schnabel to the list. For those that don’t know, the Coen Brothers’ project that’s expected to premiere is a miniseries titled “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs,” which is a Western anthology that they’re writing and directing that will be coming to Netflix.

Rick Alverson is now expected to premiere his latest film, “The Mountain,” which is a period drama starring none other than Jeff Goldblum. Brady Corbet is currently working on his film “Vox Lux,” starring Natalie Portman and Jude Law. And finally, Julian Schnabel is expected to show “At Eternity’s Gate,” which is a film starring Willem Dafoe as Vincent Van Gogh, alongside Oscar Isaac, Rupert Friend, Mads Mikkelsen and Mathieu Amalric.

The full lineup for Venice is expected to be announced on July 25, and the festival will kick off August 29.
