There was a lot of hype surrounding the launch of “Star Wars Resistance.” The animated Disney series was expected to take the place of “Star Wars Rebels” and be the flagship animated series for Lucasfilm and the galaxy far, far away. But with the launch of the first trailer for Season 2, Disney has announced that ‘Resistance’ is coming to an end.
As seen in the trailer, Season 2 of ‘Resistance’ picks up where the story left off as the Colossus is now lost in space and on the run from the First Order. The series continues to feature some of the same action and humor of the first season, with the requisite cameos from the characters from the Skywalker Saga films like Kylo Ren.
“The final season of ‘Resistance’ takes place during ‘The Last Jedi’ and leading up to the events of ‘The Rise of Skywalker,’” Disney said (via EW). “With the movie coming up in December, this was a natural place to end the show with an epic finale.”
Considering the end of ‘The Last Jedi’ featured the Resistance being decimated by the First Order, one would venture to guess that the new animated season will follow the story of how the group rebuilds and becomes a force that could once again challenge the evil folks in black.
The second and final season of “Star Wars Resistance” arrives on Disney on October 6.
Here’s the synopsis for the final season:
The story picks up after a harrowing escape from the First Order, as the Colossus and all its residents find themselves lost in space, pursued by Agent Tierny and Commander Pyre. Kaz and team also face a myriad of new dangers along the way including bounty hunters, a suspicious Hutt, General Hux, and Supreme Leader Kylo Ren. Meanwhile, Tam grapples with her future and where her true allegiance lies, with her friends or the First Order. The thrilling final season will showcase how the unlikeliest of heroes can help spark hope across the galaxy.
