It’s no secret that there is some polarization within the ‘Star Wars‘ fan base. From the (objectively pathetic) turmoil in the wake of ‘The Last Jedi,’ to the lackluster box office run of ‘Solo,’ many believe that Lucasfilm should take a step back and reanalyze their next steps. Considering this, it may come as a surprise that yet another Star Wars project is on the horizon.
“Star Wars Resistance” is the newest Disney XD animated series from showrunner and director Dave Filoni (though he won’t be as involved in the day to day as he was in previous animated shows). Following the weighty conclusion of the beloved four-season series “Star Wars Rebels,” with ‘Resistance,’ Filoni and Lucasfilm look to follow in the footsteps of that show creating a compelling and grounded narrative within the ‘Star Wars’ universe that can be cherished by audiences of all ages but is still mature and compelling.
Taking place prior to ‘The Force Awakens,’ “Star Wars Resistance” centers on young pilot Kazuda Xiono who, after being recruited by the Resistance, is assigned a top-secret mission to spy on the exponentially growing regime the First Order. The series will feature the voices of Josh Brener, Rachel Butera, Donald Faison, Scott Lawrence, Suzie McGrath, Bobby Moynihan, Jim Rash, Christopher Sean, and Myrna Velasco. Additionally, both Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie will make appearances as their characters Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma, respectively. BB-8 will be there, too.
Having created and directed both “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels,” Dave Filoni is no stranger to the modern era ‘Star Wars’ universe. No, he won’t be as involved, but he did create the show. Frequent collaborator Amy Beth Christenson will direct most episodes of the show and you’ll notice it has an anime look distinctly different from “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and ‘Rebels.’ From showrunners Brandon Auman, Athena Yvette Portillo, and Justin Ridge, “Star Wars Resistance” is slated to premiere on October 7 on Disney XD. Check out the first trailer below.
Additionally, it’s been revealed that General Leia Organa will appear on the show too, see below,
I can finally announce that I have the incomprehensible honor of voicing the role of Leia Organa in the new Star Wars Resistance out this October. Thank you @CESDTalent @DisneyLucasfilm @sternshow + Carrie Fisher. Sneak peak trailer here: https://t.co/4bVZW4Nvf6
