Pretty good news for fans of what turns out to be the above-average intelligent comedy.
The Warner Bros. Steve Carell comedy, “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” co-starring the excellent ensemble cast of Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, Kevin Bacon, Marisa Tomei, singer Josh Groban and Analeigh Tipton has just been given a release date and it’s April 22, 2011.
Moreover, the film went untitled for a while, but seems to have reverted back to its original title. Directed by John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (the duo behind the still-unreleased “I Love You Phillip Morris “) and written by Dan Fogelman (“Cars,” “Bolt”), the picture centers on a father (Carell), who’s life unravels while he deals with a marital crisis (his adulteress wife Moore and her fling; Bacon) and tries to manage his relationship with his children.
The date isn’t a perfect one, it suggest the spot of “Date Night” or some middle-of-the-road comedy, but the cast and talent is great, we found the script to be terrific and we have high hopes for a film that boasts this kind of cast.
Requa and Ficarra obviously got the shaft with the Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor-led comedy ‘Philip Morris,’ but with a cast like this and a major studio backing them, clearly Hollywood still believes in them. “I Love You Phillip Morris,” might be a lost cause for a theatrical release, but maybe they’ll get back some karmic redemption with “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” Clearly they deserve some luck coming their way.
In related WB/2011 news, Catherine Hardwicke’s “Red Riding Hood” starring Amanda Seyfried has been moved from an April 22, 2011 release date to a March 11, 2011 bow.
