Bronagh Gallagher Also On Board; Liam Cunningham Exits?
Steve Coogan and Robert Sheehan aren’t exactly strangers to the exploration of real life musical figures on film, having both starred in “24 Hour Party People” and “Killing Bono” respectively, and it looks like they’re set to go down a similar path once again. The two actors have joined “Cherrybomb” co-directors Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D’Sa‘s “Good Vibrations,” the story of Northern Ireland’s godfather of punk, Terri Hooley.
Coogan and Sheehan, the latter the breakout star of “Red Riding” and the UK series “Misfits,” are joined by the previously announced Michael Fassbender, Richard Dormer (who’ll play the lead role) as well as Bronagh Gallagher in the story adapted for the screen by Glenn Patterson and Colin Carberry, which also has “Ocean’s Eleven” composer David Holmes on board to write the music. Unfortunately, it’s a little unclear whether Fassbender’s reunion with his “Hunger” co-star Liam Cunningham will eventuate, with no sign of the latter, who was linked to the film not so long ago, in the latest news on the project.
Hooley’s story began when he founded the Good Vibrations record store on Belfast’s Great Victoria Street, from which a record label sprung, with bands like The Moondogs, The Shapes, Protex, The Outcasts and, most notably, The Undertones, whose song “Teenage Kicks” became the all-time favorite song of legendary British radio DJ John Peel, and one of the most seminal tracks of the era. Sounds like strong source material that could excel with a cast like this.
Lensing is set to get underway in Belfast later this summer with Michael Winterbottom‘s regular collaborator Andrew Eaton producing, while members of the super-boring Northern Irish band Snow Patrol will serve as associate producers on the film.
