Earlier this year, the trades fell over themselves in a muddle, reporting conflicting information about “Logan Lucky,” a project that would see Steven Soderbergh directing his first feature film since 2013’s “Side Effects” (of course, “Behind The Candelabra” was made for HBO, and blah blah blah “retirement,” let’s move on). At any rate, the news on the project in February was so conflicted, the director himself hit Twitter and played it all down, but a firmer picture has arrived about the brewing project.
Channing Tatum, Michael Shannon and Riley Keough will be starring in the “top secret” movie that will focus on brothers who attempt to pull off a heist during a major NASCAR race. The casting is a reunion of sorts with Tatum and Keough both working with Soderbergh on “Magic Mike,” and the actress starring in the TV series adaptation of “The Girlfriend Experience.” As for Shannon, he had a small role in the Soderbergh co-written and produced “Criminal,” and he and Keough were both in “The Runaways.”
No word yet on when production might start, but the project is a hot ticket at the moment in the Cannes market, so keep your ears peeled for more news. [THR]
