Still Recovering From TIFF

For those few loyal Playlist readers: yes, we’re back and trying to get back on our feet. Give us a second. TIFF was exhausting both physically and mentally, but it was nice to catch so much and see our pals in Toronto again. The rain really killed us in the last few days and kind of got us sick.

Thanks to those that read and linked to our TIFF coverage, it’s much appreciated.

Some things to note from TIFF that we never did get to mention.
– Why were both daytime screenings of “Che” Pt 1 and 2 so poorly attended? Was it because people waited to see the full version on Friday am? Or was it cause of the $45 price tag? Or was it ’cause it was during the day and people were at work? All the “gala” screenings we saw during the day at the Elgin theater (the other included, “The Burning Plain”) were sorely under-attended and we thought that was rather weird.
– Especially since a lesser film like “Nothing But The Truth” was packed. But then again that was at night. We thought it somewhat suspect that everyone had dressed up for this screening. Our hunch is that starfuckers were expecting to see stars at the Q&A; but there were none.
– Starfuckers should note, most stars and directors did their thing by midway of the festival. So by Wednesday, almost all the star wattage in Toronto was gone. Not that we gave a shit, but we could sense some disappointment when screenings were over and no stars appeared on Thurs, Fri and Saturday.
– It was weird that TIFF organizers delayed the screening of “The Wrestler” so director Darren Aronofsky could introduce the film for two minutes and then not appear for a Q&A afterward. That was odd and we were disappointed.
– Danny Boyle is the nicest, most accommodating dude. We did a brief interview with him, but lost our recorder, fuck.
– We hate to keep griping about this, but Toronto has become so expensive. Cabs are exorbitant, crazy inflation drives prices skyward, and the cocktail pour is a pittance. We don’t know about your city, but we’re glad we’re around for the rich pour in New York.
– Oh, and boo to Photobucket for all of a sudden adding this default on images sizes during TIFF that fucked up a lot of our images. We’ll have to fix that tonight (ugh).

Special thanks to The Playlist team for coming up to bat and really hitting a home run while we were in trouble. And extra special thanks to those that don’t normally contribute, but helped us out including Astrud Sands, Alex Sherman, Grace Brodie Cruz and Nick from Fataculture. Everyone’s help was immensely appreciated.
